Grok Bot: what it is and how a team of AI agents works

Grok Bot is xAI's team of always-on agents. What it does, how to use it, which plans include it and what to check before giving it access to your tools.

For years we used artificial intelligence as an assistant we ask questions to. Grok Bot proposes something different: a small team of agents that takes on work, finishes it end to end and only comes back when it needs a decision from you.

SpaceXAI (formerly xAI), the company behind Grok, introduced it in beta on August 11, 2026. Its own definition is direct: "Grok Bot is your team of always-on agents."

It is not the @grok that replies on X

This is worth clarifying because the names are easy to mix up. On X, many people tag @grok in a conversation to ask it to explain or check something. That is the assistant's public account. Grok Bot is a different product: agents that work for you or your team inside your own tools, with apps for macOS and iOS.

What Grok Bot does

According to xAI, each bot has its own computer in the cloud. That lets it keep working when you close your laptop, sign into the apps you already use and operate across websites, inboxes and platforms that have no API or formal integration.

Its main features are:

  • You hand off work with a message. There is no need to build workflows first: you write to it as you would to a coworker.
  • It remembers context. It keeps the conversation and learns your preferences over time.
  • It learns by watching. You can show it how you do a task; it saves the steps as a routine, applies your corrections and runs it later.
  • It works as a team. You can run several bots in parallel, including one that coordinates specialists for inbox, expenses, recruiting or bug fixes. Bots message each other and only escalate when human judgment is needed.
  • It follows up. It picks up dropped threads and nudges stalled handoffs.

How companies are using it

The examples xAI published show where business use is heading:

  1. A sales bot that updates the CRM from call notes and drafts follow-up emails.
  2. An operations bot that organizes new-hire onboarding and processes invoices that arrive in Gmail.
  3. An engineering bot that reproduces a bug, files the ticket and passes it to another bot that fixes it.

All three cases have something in common: they are repetitive, multi-step tasks that rarely need big decisions but eat hours every week. Triaging the inbox, entering data into systems, preparing reports or following up are good places to start.

Keep in mind that the results xAI shows come from its internal teams and from customers it chose to quote. Independent measurements have not been published yet.

Availability

At launch, Grok Bot was available in beta to SuperGrok subscribers (including Plus and Heavy) and to Cursor's Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Teams plans. Cursor is the code editor that co-developed the Grok 4.5 model with xAI. Bot usage is metered separately, so it does not count against those plans' limits. Companies can join a waitlist.

A day later, xAI released Grok 4.6, a model built specifically for agents that run for long periods.

What to check before using it

An agent that signs into your accounts can do a lot of good and a lot of damage. Before connecting it to real operations:

  • Start with limited permissions. A test account or a low-risk tool.
  • Define what needs approval. Payments, messages to customers and changes to important data should go through a person.
  • Protect sensitive information. Review the privacy policies and what data stays in the vendor's cloud. In July 2026, another xAI tool (Grok Build) mistakenly uploaded files users had excluded, and the company had to disable that feature.
  • Measure before and after. Hours saved, errors and response times are the best way to know whether it is worth it.

What comes next

Grok Bot is part of a bigger shift: agents stop being a chat window and start working with their own computer, in parallel and all day long. We look at it in detail in how AI agents are changing work.
